Fine Food School making fine cooks out of fine diners

Fine diners in Dorset are queuing up to learn how to cook good food at The Fine Food School in the village of Stour Row, near Shaftesbury.

The Fine Food School, which opened its doors in March 2009, is much more than a run-of-the-mill cookery school, but somewhere where everyone from complete beginners to those who already have cookery experience, can learn the skills to cook quality food.

We don’t teach recipes,” says founder Paul Blake. “We teach people the skills to cook fine food, then they can go home and use a recipe book if they wish.

Most of the people who come to our courses are from Dorset, though some are from further afield.

We run a variety of courses. This week we’re running one on cooking for a gourmet dinner party. So we don’t only teach about cooking, but also organisation.”

Meanwhile, Blake’s work has already earned him renown from well known names in the world of good food.

Ainsley Harriott told The Fine Food School founder “I like your style,” while Raymond Blanc was thrilled with a cake that Blake actually baked on a barbecue.
