A Cleaner Route For Public Transport

A Poole based commercial vehicle maintenance company is providing a route for a clean revolution in public transport.

ETS Trucks, an MAN service dealer, have on trial throughout the Poole and Bournemouth area the groundbreaking EcoCity bus. One of only two buses on trial in the country and fuelled by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), the six week trial is intended to show a glimpse into the future for cleaner, greener and quieter buses to the area.

MAN has already supplied more than 7,000 CNG buses throughout the world and local communities now get to experience it for themselves.

ETS Trucks Managing Director, Colin Gale highlighted, “The CNG buses run much more quietly, with less vibration and no smell of fuel. Supplying the new bus is a learning experience for us all in terms of a cleaner option for public transport.”

Regarding the use of CNG, Colin commented, “The characteristic of natural gas is that it burns very cleanly compared with other fuels, so the engines emit low levels of raw pollutants.”

“The buses have a lower impact on the environment in terms of generating lower running costs than diesel buses, low risks of fuel leaks, lower emissions and a greener way of transportation.”

The buses will be in operation throughout the local area until mid July, with a national bus company. With the limited number of buses currently available in the country, this becomes a glimpse into the future for a clean, green way of public travel.
