Dorset County Council has appointed its first female chief executive.
Debbie Ward, currently the council’s director for adult and community services, will succeed David Jenkins when he retires at the end of August taking charge of some 15,000 staff and a budget of more than £670 million.
She is married with two sons, aged eight and 12, and lives in Poole.
