Claire Hardy – one of the oliveers at Olives Et Al
A team of fun-loving olive makers in Dorset is searching for Britain’s olive lovers – the people who love olives through and through, who cook with them, snack on them, pack them in their lunchboxes, and then come home and toss them into salads and pasta with a dash of Jamie Oliver!
For almost 20 years, the team at Olives Et Al, based not in rural Spain, Italy or Greece, but in deepest Dorset, has carefully hand-sorted through millions of natural olives sourced from growers who care about their ancient trees – and then marinated them and packed them into jars with bay leaves, chillies, rosemary, coriander, garlic and extra virgin olive oil and nothing else. Nothing to preserve the olives – the oil does that naturally.
Olives are a fruit like any other, they are recognised for being a healthy addition to a balanced diet, are vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and seven of them count as one ‘five a day’ fruit.
Now the Olives Et Al team would like to know where all these olives end up – and who eats them!
Donna Maynard, who has worked at Olives Et Al for 13 years explains “Like any good producer of great food we love the olives we make and it would be great to find the people around the UK who are as mad about olives as we are. Once we have found the person who we feel is a truly olive-y , we are planning to make one of our extra special massive jars of marinated olives to an exact recipe the winner would like and also present the winner with a year’s supply of our award-winning marinated olives. They will be crowned Britain’s Olive Lover!”
Olive lovers can get in touch and explain why they are bonkers about olives on Twitter and Facebook: @olivesetal or by email to hello@olivsetal.co.uk
Olives Et A’s marinated olives are available through Sainsbury’s, delis, farm shops and many good food stores.
