Fancy yourself as the next Bear Grylls or simply want to escape from the daily routines and stresses of life? Dorset-based charity Diverse Abilities Plus has a few spaces remaining for a once-in a-lifetime opportunity, to take part in an exciting ‘Castaway Five Day Challenge’ in aid of the charity.

Taking place in a mystery woodland, at a beautiful beach location, in the South West of England on Saturday 22 to Wednesday 26 September, the ‘Castaway Five Day Challenge’ is ideal whether you come alone, with friends or family, or for teambuilding with colleagues. No level of physical fitness is required, you just need to be over 18 years of age and enjoy having fun and a bit of an adventure.
During the five days there will be a variety of fun activities, secret challenges and tasks to learn and complete, including survival techniques, building a natural shelter, fire lighting techniques, sea life-raft survival skills training, navigating by the stars, sea fishing and much more which will challenge participants from dawn until dusk!
Sue Robathan, the owner of Melodies in Motion, a company providing music therapy and exercise for both seniors and disabled adults, is one of the many participants taking part in this year’s Castaway Challenge. Sue is offering free music sessions to the adult groups at Diverse Abilities Plus and is hoping to raise over £550 in sponsorship monies. To achieve this Sue is contributing ten per cent of the fee she charges for her music sessions with new clients booking between now and October, to Diverse Abilities Plus, plus any other sponsorship she raises.
Sue said: “The thought of doing something adventurous on my doorstep, for such a worthy cause, was too good an opportunity to miss. I am very keen to support Diverse Abilities Plus as they do such an important job tailoring their services to the needs of the adults and children they support.”
As part of Sue’s support she offered a free music session at Barnabas, one of the services provided by Diverse Abilities Plus. Sharon Wells, Events Officer at the charity, said: “We were thrilled to have the opportunity of a free music therapy session. The room was packed and as soon as the music started, the whole room came alive – everyone participated in some way, whether it was dancing, tapping their feet, singing or using musical instruments and various props!”
Entry is £50 per person and each participant is asked by the charity to raise a minimum of £550 in sponsorship monies. Diverse Abilities Plus will support participants with fundraising ideas to help reach their target. The challenge is suitable for anyone aged eighteen years and older.
