Scottish fiddler Rua Macmillan, who has quickly made a name for himself as one of the rising stars in the world of Scottish traditional music, will be performing as part of the Routes South West series of concerts at Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts on September 27th.

In 2009 Rua was awarded the prestigious title of BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year, and has gone on to lead his high energy trio on major stages including at WOMAD, Cambridge Folk Festival and Celtic Connections. His debut album ‘Tyro’ was released in 2010.
Originally from Nairn, in the Scottish Highlands, fiddler Rua Macmillan will perform performs in a trio with Tia Files (from Bodega) on guitar and Adam Brown on bodhran. Having graduated with a B.A. (Hons) in Scottish Music from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in 2008, he has already toured extensively throughout Europe and the U.S.
His debut album ‘Tyro’ (CDTRAX 346) was released on the Greentrax label in May 2010 and was re-released in March 2011 ahead of a fourteen date UK tour with fellow award winner Ewan Robertson of Breabach.
In 2012 he will tour Scotland in spring and England in the autumn. He will also perform at Celtic Connections Festival in Glasgow, the East Coast Music Awards in Canada, Ortigueira Festival in Spain, Shrewsbury Folk Festival, Folk East in Suffolk, Sidmouth Folk Festival, Wickham Festival, Yn Chruinnaght Festival on the Isle of Man, Wimborne Folk Festival, Knockengorroch Festival in the Scottish Borders and more
