Supply Shack recently asked their friends and clients to vote for the charity and project that they wanted them to support this year. There were lots of good causes to choose from, but BCHA’s Hannah House project proved the clear favourite.
Hannah House is an alcohol intervention project which works with individuals who have complex needs and are alcohol dependent. The aim of Hannah House is to help people build self esteem and self worth, supporting people to work towards a life without alcohol and independent living.
In addition to pledging to donate 50% percent of their net profits, Supply Shack are also planning to take part in many fundraising events and challenges throughout the year to raise money to provide a ‘Therapy Shack’ in the garden at Hannah House. This chalet style building will provide a private space for a range of therapeutic work and intensive one-to-one support for individual service users. This currently takes place in communal areas, which is far from ideal, with sessions often being interrupted.
This one-to-one support is vital to the development of service users. Without this support it can be much harder for people to move forward with their lives, and can lead to a ‘revolving door syndrome’ where clients fail to move onto independence, and keep coming back to Hannah House.
Lorna Trent, Fundraising Manager for BCHA said: “We really appreciate the support of everyone who voted for us. Staff and residents of Hannah House were really excited to hear that we’d been chosen.
“This is such a wonderful opportunity for Hannah House and BCHA. We are really looking forward to working with Supply Shack throughout the year. They’ve already proved keen and eager to get involved with our work, and wasted no time in visiting Hannah House to learn all about it and meet everyone there.
“I would like to encourage everyone who needs office supplies, printing, signs and promotional gifts to think about using Supply Shack – by placing an order you will be helping to provide vital support to BCHA.”
Caroline Pope, Director of Supply Shack commented: “As a Social Enterprise we’re dedicated to trying our very best during the year to assist with the building of a special therapy room at Hannah House.
“It is difficult to imagine a life suffering with alcohol addiction, and I’m sure it’s never a chosen path. Often a result of grief or loss, specialist emotional help must be a crucial part of recovery and Supply Shack is glad to have this opportunity to support this project.”
