The Flaming Torch

The Priest’s House Museum & Garden in Wimborne Minster presents ‘The Flaming Torch – Champion Sporting Myths and Legends’ with Tony Horitz on Friday 24 August.

What do ancient Greek wrestlers and Dorset train drivers have in common with tortoises? Answer: they’ve all been champion athletes, each in their unique style! To find out more about the Bronze Statue Lifter and the Shapwick Express, who ran on track and field, join Tony as he reveals fascinating tales of some great sports people – and asks you to decide on who gets the medals! Plus a chance to win gold at a unique Poetry Sporting Event!

Tony is a very well known local storyteller, performer, playwright and director who has been working in educational and community drama for more than 35 years.

Performance times are 11am, 2pm and 4pm and are suitable for all ages from 6 and upwards. Tickets are priced at £5 Adult and £4 Child, including admission to the museum and garden. Booking is recommended as places are limited. For further information or to book a place please contact the museum on 01202 882533, email priestshouse@eastdorset.gov.uk or pop in to the museum shop.

This event is part of ‘The Sting in the Tale – a festival of stories’, which runs from the 17 to 27 August. Find out more at stinginthetale.org.uk.
