The region’s premier bus operator ‘more’ from Wilts & Dorset has launched a mobile app “more mobile” which could make the use of paper tickets, and even smart cards, redundant for many smart phone users. A customer can download the app, register information and a credit or debit card, and within seconds purchase from a range of one day or longer discounted period tickets. The ticket is then displayed on screen for the driver to view when boarding the bus.

Nikki Honer, Commercial Manager at more from Wilts & Dorset, says that the app will be available from September 1st for iPhone and android operating system smart phones: “We know from the successful recent launch of our key smart card that many of our customers are happy to embrace the idea of pre purchasing tickets. With the new mobile app, your phone becomes the ticket and the clever system even reminds the traveller how many days they have left on their ticket!”
Mobile app users will be able to obtain the same discounted tickets enjoyed by the thousands of key card holders who pre purchase on the internet. The app will also hold other ticket types such as dayrider tickets which will appeal to the regions holiday makers or occasional bus users. Its thought that with pensioners already using cards for their right to travel free through the governments concessionary scheme, and with more paying passengers adopting the key or app systems, time spent at bus stops as people pay the driver with cash will be reduced by as much as 50%.
“A cash ticket purchaser could be paying up to 40% more for the same journey as someone on board who has pre-paid with a period ticket. We believe the incentive to pre pay will encourage more people to save time and money for their commuting and leisure travel,” said Nikki Honer.
