Help local badminton players reach their goals

Badminton Players & Coach

Two local badminton players are looking for additional help in achieving their goals of competing for Great Britain at the 2016/2020 Olympic Games. These players are amongst the best in England for their age group (Under 19). They are both currently in their final year of their A-Levels, however, they are still training 6 days a week and around 4-5 hours per day. This shows the commitment they both have.

As of August 2011, Ollie was ranked 500+ in England for Men’s Doubles, as of August 2012, he is now ranked top 50 in England seniors. He is ranked in the top 10 for his age group. Patrick was also ranked 500+ in Men’s Singles and a year later was ranked top 70 in England Seniors and top 10 in his age group.

MDG Sports, the racket sports specialist based in Ashley Cross, Poole has been sponsoring the players as well as their coach for the past year and will continue for this year. However, having looked at the development budgets for the top players, there is a need and an opportunity for additional sponsorship. Both players will be competing in national tournaments all around the country as well as international tournaments in Europe. They will be playing approximately 20 tournaments throughout the year, with great potential to progress to the later stages of these tournaments. This shows the exposure that is available for companies wanting to get involved.

Badminton is the most popular racket sport in the country, with more than four million people playing each year. It is the sixth largest participation sport of any sort: more people play badminton than take part in rugby union, rugby league and cricket combined

Mike at MDG Sports provides the players with rackets, clothing, shoes, bags and other accessories they need as well as re-stringing their rackets. Extra sponsorship is required to help them fund all the additional costs such as coaching, training, tournament entries, travel & accommodation (especially when travelling to Europe) and physiotherapy. If there is anyway you think you may be able to help these players out then please do get in touch.

Please contact Mike to discuss this either on 01202 740112 or 07889196159.
