Keen charity runner Wayne Lyle travelled from Southend in Essex to take part in the 5k route from Bournemouth Pier to Boscombe Pier and back in memory of his mother. She attended Lewis-Manning Hospice before passing away at Forest Holme in 2010.

Wayne came in 1st place in the 5k event in just 19 minutes and his nephew Aaron Baker from Poole was close behind completing it in 25 minutes. Wayne said: “I take part in around 30 charity runs each year but Hospice 10k has a special place in my heart. My mother really loved her time at Lewis-Manning Hospice and it is my chance to give something back to the charity and say a big thanks to the staff and to see some of them at the event.”

Wheelchair user Ben Whitney came in 1st place in 32 minutes in the 10k route from Bournemouth Pier to Southbourne and back again and Harry Lauste was the fastest 10k runner with 38 minutes.

Maria Tidy, Fundraising Manager at Lewis-Manning Hospice, said: “We had a great turn out this year and we are grateful to those who pushed themselves to the limits in aid of three great local causes. We’d like to say a huge thank you to Carlton Video Productions and James Marshall Photography for capturing the event free of charge.”

The funds raised at the event were split equally between the three hospices which provide free care for local people living with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

Pictures can be found on www.hospiceevents.org and videos on the Lewis-Manning Hospice YouTube channel.

Actress and comedienne Debra Stephenson will be among the runners taking part in this year’s Hospice 5K on Sunday, October 21st.

The TV star, who lives locally, will be joining hundreds of other competitors running and walking along Bournemouth seafront in aid of three local hospices: Lewis-Manning, Forest Holme and Julia’s House, of which she is a patron.

There will be 10k, 5k and Kids’ K races to cater for all abilities from fun runners to those looking for something a little more challenging. Plus, little ones get their own special K.

One of the organisers, events manager Linda Schofield-Green from Julia’s House, said: “We are delighted that Debra is once again taking part and we hope lots of other people will follow suit.

“People enjoy the hospice run because, unlike a marathon, anyone can take part, no matter what their level of fitness – and everyone who takes part gets a medal, too.”

There is still time to sign up online at hospiceevent.org or by calling 01202 644220.

It costs £15 for the 10K, £10 for the 5K and £2.50 for the Kids’ K, plus sponsorship.

Lucy Fowler-Tutt, Business Support Coordinator at Jobshop UK is going sky high in her pledge to raise funds for Lewis-Manning Hospice, a Poole-based charity that provides free care and support to local people with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

Lucy has always wanted to do a skydive and thought that this was an opportunity not to be missed. She said: “I heard that scaring yourself on a regular basis is good for your health so I thought I’d give it a go! I know a lot about Lewis-Manning Hospice as Jobshop UK supports them as their charity of the year so I wanted to raise as many funds for them as I could.”

On August 11 Lucy, along with ten other local people are taking part in ‘Leap for Lewis- Manning Hospice’, a tandem skydive at Salisbury Airfield.

The other jumpers who have decided to push themselves to the limits are Sara Sheppard of Lewis-Manning Hospice, Jane Edwards and Simon Collins of Aldridge Brownlee, Rachel Sharp of NFU Mutual, Stephen Nimmo of Chester Pearce Associates, Giles Brinkman of Pro Health Recruitment, Shauna Lines of Coles Miller and Robert and Steve Worth.

Participants have the opportunity to jump for free if they raise the minimum sponsorship of £395 to cover all costs.

Maria Tidy, Fundraising Manager at Lewis-Manning Hospice added: “Skydiving is a different way of raising money for charity. You can enjoy the excitement and thrills of freefall whilst feeling proud that you are making a positive difference to people with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.”

2012 is Lewis-Manning Hospice’s 20th anniversary and they have recently moved into a brand new state of the art facility to expand their services which includes a day hospice, breathlessness and lymphoedema clinics and a bedded palliative care unit. The hospice also features a hairdressers, gym and outstanding views over looking Poole Harbour, Brownsea Island and the Purbecks.

A Bournemouth resident has relished in the success of her business by launching an online shop and donating a percentage of sales to local charity Lewis-Manning Hospice.

Nicola Massieu-Cowlard, owner of successful party plan business Shoe Devotion, succumbed to the demand of an online shop and wanted to give something back to the local community. She said: “An opportunity arose to further my business and I thought that there was no better time to support Lewis-Manning Hospice, a great local charity that cares for hundreds of local people.”

For every item brought on www.shoedevotion.co.uk over a period of two months, a percentage of all sales will go to Poole-based Lewis-Manning Hospice. Maria Tidy, Fundraising Manager at the hospice said: “We are really excited about working with Nicola, it means that local people can buy lovely products whilst giving something back to their local hospice.”

Nicola decided to follow her dream of running her own business after seeing many unique and high quality shoes and handbags in Italy and Spain. You can browse and buy shoes and handbags via the website which will launch this month, and you can also have her products brought to your home for a shoe party to browse and buy without having to battle the high street crowds.

Lewis-Manning Hospice supports over 650 local people living with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses. They are currently aiming to raise £2.5 million to build a brand new state of the art hospice in Lilliput to enable them to enhance their current services and to provide a bedded unit for local people.

Get your running shoes on for charity and support your three local hospices, Lewis-Manning Hospice, Julia’s House and Friends of Forest Holme, on 9 October and walk, jog or run to raise money for these three great causes helping local people living with cancer and other life limiting illnesses.

Following the success of the Hospice 10k last year, your three local hospices have teamed up again, this time offering fun runners and serious runners the opportunity to run 10k, 5k, or Kids K. The route will start at Bournemouth Pier Approach, along the promenade to Southbourne and back.

Maria Tidy, Fundraising Manager at Lewis-Manning Hospice, said: “We hope that as many people as possible will sign up as every penny raised will go towards the comfort and care of the patients we support, so every walker, jogger or runner really will make a difference.”

Registration fee for 10k is £15, 5k is £10 and Kids K is £2.50 and includes a T-shirt for the runners to keep. There is no minimum sponsorship, but every penny counts, so whatever supporters can raise will really help the hospices.

Register online at www.hospiceevents.org or for more information please call Lewis-Manning Hospice and speak to Maria on 01202 701 000.
