The charity has been providing free care and support to local people living with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses for two decades.

This year staff opened a purpose built state of the art facility on Evening Hill in Poole to expand the hospice’s services and to provide a bedded unit for respite, rehabilitation and end of life care.

The glamorous Ball was hosted by singer/songwriter Paul Kinvig and entertainment was provided by The Rat Pack and a DJ.

Guests enjoyed a ‘money can’t buy’ auction with original artwork, signed scripts, and the opportunity to pledge money for equipment needed for the hospice. A casino table was also on offer for entertainment as well as a luxury raffle.

Maria Tidy, Fundraising Manager at Lewis-Manning Hospice said: “Our Anniversary Ball was a night to remember and it certainly marked our milestone year. We were amazed at the generosity shown by our supporters who raised a record amount for the hospice. Everyone looked fabulous and enjoyed a good dance to The Rat Pack.”

The Ball was sponsored by Care Dynamics which meant all funds raised on the night were pure profit for the charity.

The hospice provides day services, a breathlessness clinic and a Lymphoedema clinic and plans to open its bedded unit in 2013. The hospice receives one third of its funding from the PCT, and the remaining £50,000 is raised through fundraising initiatives, the hospice lottery, gifts in wills, hospice charity shops and corporate and community support.

Maria added: “We are extremely grateful to the Ball committee Charlotte Warren, Rachel Byrne, Sarah Patient and John Beukes who organised the evening and sourced our sensational auction prizes. It truly was a night to remember.”

The hospice thanked Utility Advice Bureau who sponsored the cost of The Rat Pack and Flowers at 166 for the table decorations and balloon raffle.

Visitors will get the opportunity to meet the hospice’s patron Fiona Castle OBE, widow to Record Breakers’ Roy Castle and to be given an exclusive tour of the brand new facility.

A variety of Christmas themed stalls will be presented for visitors to browse and buy gifts with all proceeds going to the hospice which provides free care and support to local people with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. Items on sale include books, cakes, jewellery, cards and flowers.

The Christmas Fayre is held at 1 Crichel Mount Road, Lilliput, Poole and runs from 10am to 12pm. Entry is by donation to the hospice.

Fiona Castle OBE, widow to Record Breakers’ Roy Castle and Patron of the Lewis-Manning Hospice is guest of honour at the charity’s Light up a Life, Tree of Lights event on 30 November at Ashley Cross Green in Parkstone, Poole.

Light up a Life is one of the best-loved and most meaningful events in the Lewis-Manning Hospice calendar. Starting at 6.30pm guests will be able to illuminate a light on a Christmas tree as a special way to remember loved ones and as a symbol of hope for the future. The evening also includes carols, prayers, mince pies and mulled wine will also be on offer.

Maria Tidy, Fundraising Manager at Lewis-Manning Hospice said: “We hope that as many people as possible will join us for this very special event. Everyone is welcome to this special event, not just those whose loved ones were cared for at the hospice.”

Over 90 local people went aboard the Purbeck Gem which departed from Poole Quay and sailed to Wareham Quay and back in time for the fireworks at Sandbanks in August.

The infamous Pirates of Poole were in attendance and passengers wore their finest pirate fancy dress.

The money raised from the event will go towards buying new equipment for the new palliative care bedded unit.”

Lewis-Manning Hospice is celebrating its 20th anniversary and has recently opened a brand new purpose built facility in Lilliput overlooking Poole Bay including en-suite palliative care bedrooms.

The event, to be held on Friday 12 October from 2 to 4pm will give visitors the opportunity to see the charity’s brand new purpose build hospice on Evening Hill in Lilliput. They will also get the chance to talk to the nursing staff about what services the hospice provides, and talk to members of the fundraising team about how to get involved with supporting hospice.

Following the success of the Hospice 10k last year, Lewis-Manning Hospice, Julia’s House and Forest Holme have teamed up again, this time to offer fun runners and serious runners the opportunity to run 10k, 5k, or a Kids K. The route will start at Bournemouth Pier Approach, along the promenade to Southbourne and back.

Maria Tidy, Fundraising Manager at Lewis-Manning Hospice, said: “We hope that as many people as possible will sign up as every penny raised will go towards the comfort and care of the patients we support, so every walker, jogger or runner really will make a difference.”

The registration fee for 10k is £15, 5k is £10 and Kids K is £2.50 and includes a t-shirt for the runners to keep. There is no minimum sponsorship, but every penny counts.

It’s time to head back to school with Jobshop UK’s ‘Back to School Quiz’ held at Parkstone Grammar School in Poole on Friday 14 September to raise vital funds for a local charity.

School dinners, bangers and mash, a tuck shop and a bar are on offer as well as a prize for the winning team and detentions for the underperformers. School uniform fancy dress is encouraged.

Nigel Hedges of Bournemouth Trade and Commerce will take on the role of quizmaster for the evening which starts at 7pm. Entry is £90 per team of six. All proceeds from the event will go directly to Lewis-Manning Hospice, a charity based in Poole which provides free care and support to local people with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

The Pirates of Poole at Poole Harbour

All are welcome aboard the Purbeck Gem which departs on Thursday 16 August at 6.30pm from Poole Quay.

The infamous Pirates of Poole will be in attendance and passengers are encouraged to wear pirate fancy dress on the boat which will travel along the river to Wareham and back again for the fireworks finale.

All proceeds raised will go to Lewis-Manning Hospice, a charity based in Poole which provides free care and support to local people with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

Tickets are £20 and include entertainment from a five piece blue grass band, fish and chips supper. A cash bar and raffle will also be available. The boat will depart at 6.30pm prompt.

AFC Bournemouth teamed up with Lewis-Manning Hospice, Julia’s House and Friends of Forest Holme to raise the vital funds as part of The Football League’s official charity partnership with Help the Hospices.

Throughout the season, AFC Bournemouth held a family fun day, a golf day, auctioned signed player shirts and arranged player visits to the hospices.

Football fans across England and Wales voted for Help the Hospices to be The Football League’s Official Charity Partner for the 2011/12 season.

The season has seen fans, players, managers and even mascots from The Football League’s 72 clubs all pitching in to help people with life-limiting and terminal illnesses and their families to live well.

Lucy Fowler-Tutt

Lucy Fowler-Tutt, Business Support Coordinator at Jobshop UK is going sky high in her pledge to raise funds for Lewis-Manning Hospice, a Poole-based charity that provides free care and support to local people with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

Lucy has always wanted to do a skydive and thought that this was an opportunity not to be missed. She said: “I heard that scaring yourself on a regular basis is good for your health so I thought I’d give it a go! I know a lot about Lewis-Manning Hospice as Jobshop UK supports them as their charity of the year so I wanted to raise as many funds for them as I could.”

On August 11 Lucy, along with ten other local people are taking part in ‘Leap for Lewis- Manning Hospice’, a tandem skydive at Salisbury Airfield.

The other jumpers who have decided to push themselves to the limits are Sara Sheppard of Lewis-Manning Hospice, Jane Edwards and Simon Collins of Aldridge Brownlee, Rachel Sharp of NFU Mutual, Stephen Nimmo of Chester Pearce Associates, Giles Brinkman of Pro Health Recruitment, Shauna Lines of Coles Miller and Robert and Steve Worth.

Participants have the opportunity to jump for free if they raise the minimum sponsorship of £395 to cover all costs.

You can enjoy the excitement and thrills of freefall whilst feeling proud that you are making a positive difference to people with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.”

2012 is Lewis-Manning Hospice’s 20th anniversary and they have recently moved into a brand new state of the art facility to expand their services which includes a day hospice, breathlessness and lymphoedema clinics and a bedded palliative care unit. The hospice also features a hairdressers, gym and outstanding views over looking Poole Harbour, Brownsea Island and the Purbecks.
